Born in Zweibrucken, Germany in 1825, Adolphe Himmel fled the country to escape political turmoil in 1848. He began his work in New Orleans, LA in partnership with Christopf Christian Kuchler in 1852. Himmel joined Hyde and Goodrich, New Orleans' premier jeweler and silversmith, in 1853 and worked as the chief craftsman for their successor, Thomas Griswold & Co, later renamed A.B. Griswold & Co. In 1869, Himmel left the company to establish A. Himmel Silverware Manufactory where he crafted fine silver holloware until his death in 1877.
