An extremely rare sterling silver Trefid baby spoon made I'm London, England by silversmith William Matthews circa 1739. 3 3/4", 0.36 troy ounce.
The Trefid handle silverware is the first pattern to emerge in the 17th century in England, and underwent slight variations with time. The end of the handle is divided in three by two notches cut into the top, and this is where the name for the pattern was derived.
