This beautiful antique New Orleans souvenir spoon was crafted in sterling silver by Durgin and retailed by M. S. Scooler, a respected New Orleans jeweler active around 1900.
The front of the handle displays an intricate design of sugar-cane stalks leading up to a pelican feeding her young—the Louisiana state bird and emblem of self-sacrifice. The reverse is boldly engraved “New Orleans LA.” in raised lettering, and the back of the bowl bears an Old English “B” monogram, adding a graceful personal touch that reflects the spoon’s history and craftsmanship.
A fine example of early 20th-century American souvenir silver, this piece captures Louisiana’s cultural heritage through Durgin’s renowned artistry.
