This elegant antique sterling silver spoon was crafted by J.E. Caldwell & Co., one of Philadelphia’s premier silversmiths, and dates to 1910. The design celebrates the Sagittarius zodiac sign and November’s birth flower, the chrysanthemum.
The handle features a finely detailed archer beneath a “SAGITTARIUS” banner, with the word “NOVEMBER” running vertically down the stem. The bowl is richly chased with chrysanthemum blossoms and foliage, surrounding a beautifully engraved script monogram “MFS.”
The back of the handle is engraved “1910” and stamped STERLING, alongside the J.E. Caldwell & Co. hallmark and maker’s marks. A superb example of early 20th-century American silver artistry, this piece combines zodiac symbolism with botanical beauty.
