Antique c1900 Watson Sterling Enamel New Orleans Souvenir Spoon – Historical Black Americana – 1.11 Troy O

An exceptionally unusual antique American sterling silver and hand-painted enamel New Orleans souvenir spoon, dating to approximately 1900.

The spoon features a vividly enameled bowl depicting a seated African American youth holding and eating a large slice of watermelon, surrounded by the words “THE REAL THING.” The ornate sterling handle is engraved “New Orleans” and terminates in an elaborate high-relief figural and foliate design.

The reverse is clearly marked STERLING beside the distinctive pennant hallmark associated with Watson/Mechanics Sterling of Attleboro, Massachusetts.

This is a particularly substantial souvenir spoon, weighing approximately 1.11 troy ounces, with considerable sterling silver content and unusually well-preserved decorative detail.
