A handsome early 20th-century Daniel & Arter silverplated cruet or condiment set, complete with four beautifully cut glass bottles arranged in their original fitted silverplate caddy.
The square stand has a wonderfully clean, tailored appearance with rounded ball feet, upright supports and a distinctive black-wrapped carrying handle. The highly polished silverplate beautifully complements the deeply cut glass bottles and their faceted stoppers.
The set includes four removable cut-glass condiment vessels: two bottles with faceted glass stoppers, one shaker with pierced silverplate top, and one bottle with a fitted silverplate hinged lid. Each bottle fits into its individual circular holder.
The underside of the stand is clearly stamped:
DANIEL & ARTER
EPNS
EPNS denotes electroplated nickel silver.
Daniel & Arter was an important English manufacturer of silver and silverplated wares, and this elegant set has the restrained form and quality construction associated with their early 20th-century tableware.
A particularly attractive piece for a traditional dining table, bar, buffet or silver collection—and much more decorative than modern condiment service.
Measurements
Approximately 8–8 1/2 inches tall to the top of the carrying handle.
Please refer to the ruler photograph for scale.
Condition
Very good vintage/antique condition.
The silverplate has been polished and displays beautifully. There are expected light surface scratches, small marks and scattered age-related wear consistent with use. The underside shows additional surface scratching and several small spots of oxidation/pitting. The black handle wrapping remains intact.
The cut glass is bright and attractive. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
No monogram.
A striking and useful example of antique English silverplate that displays exceptionally well.
