An exceptional 3-piece large roast carving set by The Schofield Company of Baltimore, Maryland, in the celebrated Baltimore Rose pattern.

This is an especially impressive example because the handles are substantial full-cast sterling silver, with elaborate floral repoussé decoration continuing completely around each handle. Rather than having ornamentation confined to a single face, the handles are richly sculpted on all sides with dimensional roses, blossoms, leaves, and foliage, creating the heavy, luxurious appearance for which fine Baltimore silver is known.

The set consists of:
Large Roast Carving Knife – 14-1/2" long
Two-Tine Roast Carving Fork – 11-1/8" long
Matching Sharpening/Honing Steel

The enormous 14-1/2" carving knife gives this set substantial presence and clearly distinguishes it from smaller steak, poultry, or general carving sets. It was designed for carving large roasts, turkey, ham, prime rib, and other substantial cuts at the table or sideboard.

The two-tine carving fork incorporates the traditional folding guard/rest near the base of the tines, and the matching honing steel completes the three-piece ensemble.

Each piece features the distinctive Baltimore Rose floral design, executed in deep relief with extensive detail extending around the entire handle. The natural darkening within the recessed areas beautifully emphasizes the sculptural floral work.

The handles are marked SCHOFIELD / STERLING with Schofield hallmarks as shown in the photographs.

Condition
Very good antique/vintage condition overall, particularly considering the age and intended use of the set. The sterling silver handles retain excellent definition, with the roses, flowers, leaves, and textured backgrounds remaining highly detailed.

The steel portions show expected evidence of age and use, including surface scratches, oxidation, darkening, spotting and some pitting, most notably on the knife blade and honing steel. These signs of age have been left visible in the photographs rather than concealed.
